Burke's First Week

The Grier Family came to the hospital on Burke's Birthday. They even brought giant red velvet cupcakes to help celebrate Nonna's Jan. 8th birthday too. Cousin Reid, 5 years old, gets a chance to hold him. He spiked his hair for the occasion.
Tessa, 8 years old, is a natural. Burke made a rythmic squeaking noise the whole first day of his life. It was as if he was soothing himself. The nurses said it was his way of clearing out his lungs. Only when Tess held Burke did he stop his squeaking. She is quite proud of her baby skills so we plan to take full advantage of this babysitter in training.
We had many friends anxious to meet the newest Croft on Thursday, 1/13. The very first friend to arrive was of course, Aunt Polly and Jeb. She promises to teach Burke lots of naughty behavior that will drive the girls wild, like burping and farting.
Nichole pleasantly surprised us on her way home from work and brought us lots of goodies, including our now favorite Baby Einsteins CD. Burke is excited to meet Nichole's little boys, Chase and Blake, for a playdate.
Cheryll and Joe Pacey arrived next with apple muffins in hand. Yum. Much better than hospital food, especially at 3 am in the morning.

Christina and Dave Gepner (above) and Megan and Cam McGown (below) came to entertain us long enough to make us laugh until it hurt. We will have to hang out more, just not in a hospital room.

Emily is a college friend that is an ER Nurse at Shawnee Mission where we delivered so she stopped by in between shifts to cuddle him. So good to see her.
A close up of Burke before we packed him up to head home.
Ahh Dad, why are you making me wear this silly outfit just to go home. It is way to big! (but extra soft)
Lil striped bear ready to try the car seat out.
The Croft Family ready to brave the world without the great nurses and doctors of Shawnee Mission.
Ready to go home! Dad is driving around warming up the car since it is 1 degree outside. Burr!

Now back at home... still sleeping through it all. I didn't make a peep in the car ride home.  So much that mom wanted to pull over and see that I was breathing.
We had been waiting to put up his wall decal that has his name on it until he arrived. We put the decal on the wall before we introduced him to his room. Cheesy, but absolutely necessary. ; )
We have a pack-n-play on the main floor where Burke tends to nap, a lot. He is a pretty happy baby and enjoys a nice tight swaddle which I have down to an art form.
Burke's first bath was a success. He likes his little Hugh Hephner robe tossed in the dryer beforehand for a nice warm robe.
He didn't cry through his hair washing. In fact, I would say he liked it.
Clean Burke.
Who doesn't love a clean, naked baby on a fuzzy blanket.
His eyes are currently a dark blue, gray.
Tess looks for opportunities to come over and hold Burke. She is a good lil mama.
Karyl, Dan's mom, visited Dan's Great Uncle Burke in Manhattan, KS to tell him the news of our little Burke's birth and share our name choice. Dan and I both think very highly of Uncle Burke and Aunt Margery and really liked the name Burke. It just so happens Uncle Burke is a pilot too.
Aunt Megan came from Manhattan to meet Burke. I think she just might spoil him.
Tummy time on Dad's tummy.
Story time.

Nonna stayed with us for a week and was an angel. She cooked dinner, stocked up our freezer, did laundry and ran errands for us. I don't know what I would have done without her and Dan. They were great help so Icould take naps. I don't know if I can ever thank them enough,

We had atleast 6 inches of snow so we didn't have a problem staying home. Burke is in his sleep sack in his swing.
Our dog, Gage, has been good with Burke. Gage basically wants to sniff Burke but otherwise doesn't seem to want much to do with him.
The whole Croft Family
It may be snowing outside but Burke is ready to set sail. Look at his little boat shoes our friends Joe and Cheryll gave us.
The view out our front door early Wednesday, 1/19/11, Burke's 1 week birthday.
