Burke's 21st Week- Memorial Weekend

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

We started off our long weekend by going to the Gardner Balloon Festival on Friday night. At 7 pm they had the "mass ascension" which meant about 10 different balloons launched from a football field. It was a bit chilly for a May evening. We enjoyed a picnic and a child friendly evening out.

 After going to the Dr. 3 times, Dan was diagnosed with mono! His symptoms are really just a sore throat, but a very sore throat, but his energy level seems to be ok. We took it pretty easy this weekend and tried to fill him with chocolate shakes, fruity smoothies and pudding.

 We met my friend and coworker Rebecca and her 9 mo. old son, Lawson.

On Sunday we attended church for the first time since Burke's birth. It turns out our church, Church of the Resurrection, has a very nice soothing room so we were quite comfortable when Burke got fussy.

 After church we enjoyed a nice brunch at Granite City and headed to the Overland Park Arboretum which is at 179th and Quivira. Who knew we had such a beautiful area right here in KC. It was about 90 degrees so we slathered up Burke's legs with 60+ SPF, got the shade on his stroller and he took a nap.

At home we found a quick way to entertain Burke is to drag him around on a blanket on the floor. We have to make sure we don't accidentally dump our passenger when he turns into a rolly polly.

Burke's 20th Week

Last week I didn't post captions as we were a busy house dealing with two sick boys. Burke had a nasty cough so we headed to the Dr. Friday am. We found out that Pedialyte, a humidifier and some saline nasal spray were all we could do to help Burke's cough. He was practically purring with all the gunk in his throat. His oxygen was good and lungs were clear, but we stayed home to rest up and avoid passing it around at daycare. (Even though that is where he got it from.) We both enjoyed some naps together.

Dan is dealing with a very sore throat, but according to two doctors it is not strep.

Burke likes to be part of the action so we set his high chair up this week. He enjoys being part of the dinner conversation and will add a gurgle, "duh" or "uhhhhhh" sound to make sure we know he is still there. He is still exclusively on breast milk, but we are starting to think that formula is next. In just a little over a month he will be starting rice cereal.

 He is growing so quickly. A week and a half after his four month appointment he had gained one whole pound. He weighs 15 lbs. 7 oz. I now have him in 6-9 month clothing already!

 After dinner, Dan and Burke play airplane. Dan recreates the air traffic controller communications to give Burke the true effect. Burke squeals and offers a gummy smile for Dan's creative efforts.

 Thursday was beautiful (73 degrees) so we went for an evening stroll before dinner. He now holds onto the side of his car seat like its a roller coaster. Safety first.

Burke's 19th Week!

Burke's 18th Week

Burke has yet to repeat the rollover since his first one last week. He continues to pull his chest and legs up at the same time which almost looks like he is flying. There might be a yoga pose named after this move.

His grip is strong and you can see his coordination is getting dangerous. Dan's ear was the latest catch. Burke is surprised by his own strength. Ha ha. Love his face here.

 He loves his bunny. As you can see we had a pretty quiet week here without much news to report.

Burke's 17th Week

Hello there!

 This week Burke really experimented with his voice. He has been cooing, gurgling and giggling. My favorite sound is when he laughs so hard he sucks in air almost like a inaudible squeal of delight. He is definitely getting louder and half the time you can't tell if he is mad or just yelling to hear himself.

 We celebrated my first Mother's Day with a nice breakfast at home. Burke wrote me a sweet Mother's Day card thanking me for things I am yet to do and apologizing in advance for putting fireworks in the toilet. 

Megan and Karyl stopped in to say hello and Karyl got some quality Burke time while we got out to run some errands, Burke free. Its amazing how fast you can run errands when you have two free hands are aren't lugging 30+ lbs around.

 He fell asleep like this one morning outside my bathroom while I was getting ready for work.

 What a ham! He had his 4 month shots and screamed bloody murder but after he ate he was good as new.

At his 4 month appointment he had a clean bill of health. He weights 14 lbs. 7 oz. He is 26 inches long and his head is 16inches in diameter. As far as percentiles go he is in the 90% percentile for height and 45% for weight and head. That all adds up to being just like his dad...tall and slender.

 On Wednesday night, I hosted Bunko at our house. All the girls were lovin' on Burke. Dan and Burke hung out in the basement that night. At about 8:00 Dan runs upstairs with Burke to announce to the party that.. "Burke ROLLED OVER!" He was so proud! Unfortunately Dan was met with many sympathetic eyes since I was obviously not there to witness this first precious milestone. I have yet to see him roll over, but I am still a proud mama.
